Manager, Finance Operations
Alberta-Pacific Forest Industries Inc. (Al-Pac) is seeking a Manager, Finance Operations to work out of our Millsite near Athabasca, Alberta, or our St. Albert, Alberta office. Relocation to the Athabasca Mill Site is preferred. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall leadership, governance, service delivery, and continuous improvement of the Finance Operations function. This job oversees the operational accounting functions of the organization, including all areas related to cost accounting, accounts payable, capital accounting, finance policy, internal controls, and associated reporting. Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, develop, and support the Finance Operations team to ensure effective service delivery and achievement of departmental objectives.
- Review and analyze internal monthly financial statements and other monthly reports.
- Lead the development, delivery, and annual review of financial policies, guidelines, and protocols within Finance Operations to ensure the Company complies with regulations and good financial practice.
- Lead key matters associated with product costing, including the determination of yearly fibre and chip usage rates, transfer pricing, overhead allocations, and revaluation impacts.
- Ensure appropriate financial close procedures are completed monthly and quarterly during the financial reporting close, including the quarterly fibre inventory survey.
- Oversee working capital management, including timely and accurate payment to external vendors.
- In partnership with the Executive Leadership, establish, communicate, and measure finance-related key performance indicators (KPIs) across the organization.
- Ensure internal controls (J-SOX) compliance is achieved for controls related to the Finance Operations area and recommend improvements as required.
- Oversee the effective management of the annual capital project spending portfolio, including tracking and reporting.
- Manage the development and governance of financial systems for the company and support business operational areas as a subject matter expert.
- Manage the collection of data from a wide range of sources to analyze key themes and identify possible impacts on the business.
- Ensure compliance with Statistics Canada and other external survey requests as required.
- Identify and lead opportunities for continuous improvement including: finance processes, controls, systems, reporting, and service delivery.
- Prepare analysis and position papers on an ad hoc basis related to complex accounting issues.
- Communicate cross-functionally as a partner to the broader organization to ensure organization-wide compliance with the related accounting standards.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree, preferably in Business Administration/Business Management, is required.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
- 10+ years’ progressive experience in accounting, finance operations, financial management, or related financial leadership roles.
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience leading finance teams and operational accounting functions.
- Experience in a forestry, manufacturing environment, and/or commodity industry is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience overseeing financial reporting, operational accounting, accounts payable, capital accounting, internal controls, and financial governance.
- Experience developing, implementing, and improving financial processes, controls, systems, and reporting frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience partnering with leaders to provide financial analysis, decision support, and business insights.
- Experience leading teams through organizational change, process improvement, system implementations, or transformation initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to develop talent, build team capability, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

- Ability to lead, coach, mentor, and develop high performing teams while building capability and accountability.
- Ability to establish controls, ensure compliance, and manage operational and financial risk.
- Strong computer skills and knowledge including MS Office, including advanced knowledge of Excel models. Experience with SAP and accounting software is considered an asset.
- Excellent organization and communication skills, including oral, written, and presentation skills.
- Ability to influence at all levels.
- Ability to exercise exceptional judgment in dealing with confidential and sensitive information.
